At Trinity Veterinary Hospital, we are committed to providing the highest standard of care through advanced diagnostic tools, including ultrasound. This safe, non-invasive procedure allows us to see inside your pet’s body in remarkable detail, helping us uncover vital information about their health. From diagnosing abdominal conditions to assessing heart function, our ultrasound services offer a powerful way to support your pet’s well-being.

What is an Ultrasound?
Ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of your pet’s internal organs. These sound waves are harmless and provide a detailed, three-dimensional view of tissues, blood flow, and other structures. This technology allows us to evaluate your pet’s health in ways that traditional X-rays or physical exams cannot achieve.
Whether we’re examining the liver, kidneys, or heart, ultrasound serves as an invaluable diagnostic tool that helps us pinpoint issues quickly and accurately.
Abdominal Ultrasounds
Abdominal ultrasounds are used to evaluate your pet’s stomach, intestines, liver, spleen, pancreas, kidneys, and bladder. This procedure is especially useful for diagnosing:
- Abnormalities in organ structure or function
- Causes of vomiting, diarrhea, or unexplained weight loss
- Masses, cysts, or tumors within the abdominal cavity
- Blockages or other gastrointestinal concerns
Because it’s non-invasive and painless, your pet remains comfortable while we gain the insights needed to make informed treatment decisions.
Cardiac Ultrasounds (Echocardiograms)
If your pet is experiencing symptoms like coughing, difficulty breathing, or lethargy, a cardiac ultrasound, or echocardiogram, can help us evaluate their heart. This specialized procedure provides a close-up view of the heart’s chambers, valves, and blood flow. It’s an essential tool for diagnosing and monitoring conditions such as:
- Heart murmurs
- Congenital heart defects
- Cardiomyopathy (disease of the heart muscle)
- Fluid buildup around the heart
WAVE Cardiac Echocardiogram Immersion Certified
Our very own Dr. Carey Bonds has earned her WAVE Cardiac Echocardiogram Immersion certification. This means she has attended 112 hours of in class training, evaluated on over 60 echocardiogram studies turned in for homework, and been trained by leading professionals that have written the book on small animal cardiac ultrasound. If your pet has any cardiac signs, such as heart murmur, exercise intolerance, or rapid breathing rate at rest, Dr. Bonds will walk you through how this tool can help ensure your pet receives the most effective care for their individual needs.

Ultrasound vs. X-Ray
While both X-rays and ultrasounds are invaluable diagnostic tools, they serve different purposes. X-rays are ideal for assessing bone structure, organ size, and positioning. Ultrasounds are best for evaluating the internal structure of organs, blood flow, and soft tissues that X-rays can’t clearly capture. We pair our ultrasound findings with clinical exams, lab results, and X-rays to ensure a thorough understanding of your pet’s health.
